A Moon Love Story
From me to the mothers before me..
The Moon’s Influence
The moon, a luminary, is not just a beautiful sight when it’s full. She affects us even when she is not visible. Cyclical with moods that change with every sign and phase every month. The moon phases give us monthly opportunities to restart, reflect and take inspired action. The better we understand the moon and it’s phases the better we can use it to plan our days, weeks and months.
Emotions Ebb and Flow, like the Moon rules the tides…
The moon rules the tides which represents how our emotions ebb and flow. The moon is where we learn how we are emotionally fulfilled. Our moon sign tells us how we were nurtured and what nurtures us. It is what tells us where and how we feel safe. For me it is where I find what makes me feel whole, and loved on the inside. My moon also helps me to communicate what I need from others.
When I fell in love…
I started studying astrology a few years ago and although I can relate to most of the personal planets, I relate the most to the Moon. I am a Cancer sun ruled by the moon and my moon in Gemini in the third house is all about communication, extended family, siblings and all the things for learning and knowledge. I am a writer, I am very close to my siblings. I truly feel my grandma and those before her wanted me to be here to write, tell their stories, and to share my love of the moon and how it has shaped my life. I started journaling each week everyday tracking what sign the moon was in and what phase she was in. When I learned how I felt during certain phases, I honored that by either resting and reflecting when the moon wanes, or taking inspired action when the moon is waxing. I learned my moods when the moon changed signs and wrote the qualities of each moon sign and how it reflected in my daily life. One example that I have seen that works the most for me is when the moon is in Virgo. My Mars is in Virgo in the 6th house, so when the moon is in Virgo I am ready to take action on those dusty to-do lists. Writing down how you feel each day and writing what sign the moon is in alongside the phase, you can also begin to see patterns. Those patterns may often line up with the moon phases. I also matched the patterns to how I felt during my menstrual cycle which has significance to the moon phases. An example for me, my cycle starts with the Balsamic moon phase or when the moon is waning right before the new moon. I was also born during this phase (I am going to write more about the moon phase when you are born and its significance). I tend to be more tired, more reflective and observant vs taking action like when the moon is waxing.
The mothers before me….
My grandmother Daisy on my dad’s side was the light of my life. She taught me the meaning of unconditional love, patience and the importance of family. I would talk to her for hours about anything and everything. She passed on to me her gift of writing. When I think about wisdom I think about the womb and how it relates to the moon. From all of the studies and books I have read about the moon most say it represents motherhood or our relationship with our mother. It only makes sense while in the womb we inherit our mother’s tears, her pain, her experiences both good and bad. Early childhood our memories are being shaped with the nurturing we received from our own mother or motherly figures. So full circle the moon and the mother represent to me fertility (new beginnings) and rebirth. I wasn’t close to my mother but I can respect that she did her best with what she had. When I think about how much I lacked emotional love from my mom growing up, I bottled up my feelings and wrote about them instead. I didn’t feel safe to be vulnerable. I even have a Mars square my Moon aspect which describes my struggle with being defensive when I am not heard. My mother wasn’t one to communicate emotions. This tells me that is the path to growth that I inherited. The way I could take what was passed on to me to heal and bring back to life. In order for me to feel emotionally fulfilled, I must be able to express those emotions whether it be communicating with those close to me, or through writing. My grandma was and is my inspiration to express myself authentically. So it brings me joy as I have been working with the moon how much I am getting closer to the women before me. My grandmothers and their grandmothers lead me, guide me and just like the moon and all the phases, I get the chance of rebirth, new beginnings and reflection. The mothers before me, have put into my hands the wisdom, the inspiration and courage to speak up, be vulnerable and guide others to do the same. I have been trying to learn more about my ancestors outside just my DNA and I am still searching. But I do know a lot of them come from West Africa. I have been listening to a lot of music from artists there and I know I will be guided to learning more. It is my Jupiter return and how fitting it is in Cancer and my 4th house. The urge to learn and connect to my roots and this energy explains where I am. When I look at the moon, I feel the divine energy of all of the women before me. I give honor to them and all of their gifts they passed on to me. With their pain and struggles I inherited I get the blessing of healing myself and also them. The mothers before me give me comfort that I am loved, I am safe and I am worthy. The moon ruling the tides of the ocean, and through the mothers before me I allow my emotions to flow. I allow the moon’s energy to guide me. I embrace and cherish the motherly wisdom she and all the mothers before me provide.
Getting to know our Moon sign…..
I think the Moon is the most underrated luminary or planet best to work with. It affects our mood and the collective and changes by sign every couple of days, and phase every month. Your lunar return, which is when the moon is in your sign that it was at birth. It’s like having a birthday every month! Imagine the moon shining blessings and creating auspicious opportunities for you. Getting to also know how your moon relates to other planets in your chart also helps. Aspects to the moon will give more of a story about your gifts, and where you may have challenges. The more you know the better you can understand how to manage the challenges, and use the unique gifts as opportunities to learn and grow. Do you know your moon sign? In 2026 I will be offering mini moon readings so I can show you how I use the moon. I will show you your moon story and how best to work with it every month. I am excited to see how you relate to your moon sign and the mothers before you.
